It's okay, you can trust me...

It doesn't take a rigorous assessment of ourselves to know if we are trusting individuals or not. We already know this about ourselves. Do we trust easily, or does it take a crowbar and wrench to pry others into our lives?

From the moment we graduate from "all fours" to an upright walking little person, we certainly put our built in trust-o-meter to the test. We carefully wrapped our tender, powder-fresh hands gently around our walking companion's fingers and then crunched down so tightly, it would make hercules cry.

Why do we do this? Why not just fall down? Well... 'cause it hurts!

We may hear others or even find ourselves saying, "Why trust anyone? All they ever do is let you down." or "if you never trust anyone, you never have to worry about being hurt."

While this may be the case, life can become pretty darn boring without surrendering our trust to others or even ourselves. Imagine if we couldn't trust the other drivers on the road to stay in their lane, we might never leave the house.

or even worrying that the toaster might have it out for us and has been secretly trying to "do us in" for the past couple of years. The list really goes on and on.

There is a beautiful part located in the Gospel of Matthew (Matt 14:29) where Jesus calls to peter, "Come." Peter Steps out of the boat and beings to walk toward his Master, then only when he begins to doubt, he sinks.

For me, this Gospel message is so special as it debunks the question stated above,

"Why trust anyone? All they ever do is let you down." or "if you never trust anyone, you never have to worry about being hurt."

Point being, we HAVE to trust. Even though we all have had a bad experience at one point or another in our lifetime with trust, it simply must happen.

Finally remember we all need to be trusted just as much as we need to trust.
